No TRX but Need to Send USDT: What to Do

The classic TRON trap: USDT sits on your wallet, but you cannot send it — the fee needs TRX or energy, and you have neither. Keep in mind that in this situation USDT cannot be sent anywhere — not to the recipient, not to an exchange, not to a swap service. So the first step is always the same: get a little TRX onto your wallet.

Step 1. Get your first TRX

Withdraw TRX from an exchange. If you have an exchange account, withdraw TRX directly to your wallet — a few coins are enough. The withdrawal needs no fee from your wallet.

Ask someone to send a couple of TRX. A counterparty, a friend, a colleague — a TRX transfer costs almost nothing and needs no energy. For a one-off situation this is the fastest option.

Buy TRX via P2P. No exchange account — buy a small amount of TRX from a P2P seller, credited straight to your wallet.

Step 2. Send USDT cheaply

Once you have a few TRX, open Tronergy in the Discover tab of TronLink:

• with 500+ USDT on the wallet — energy for the transfer for 0.1 TRX plus a slot;
• with less USDT — energy for 3 TRX, no slot used. Still several times cheaper than ~13 TRX without energy;
• need more TRX — the app has a USDT → TRX swap, which also works once you have a little TRX for the fee.

How to avoid this situation

Keep at least a few TRX on your wallet. That is enough to always get energy and send USDT without extra steps.
